With a commercial legacy spanning four generations, the Erkent family stands among Gaziantep’s oldest and most respected weaving and trading families. Founded in 1940 with traditional kilim production on hand looms, Balat Carpet expanded into a kilim factory in 1961, later establishing a yarn-dyeing facility in Istanbul and a weaving workshop in Gaziantep. Named after Istanbul’s historic Balat district, the company evolved into a collective enterprise in 1964 and became a joint stock company in 1983, solidifying its institutional structure. Today, Balat Carpet produces high-quality machine-made carpets and has broadened its operations through non-slip carpet production under the Raschel Carpet brand. With strong manufacturing capabilities and decades of expertise, Balat Carpet exports its products to more than 30 countries worldwide.
